| Many of the vaccines in this catalog are packed so there are two portions of the dose. The first vial is the freeze dried (lypholized portion, second vial is the liquid (diluent) portion. To mix the vaccine, withdraw the diluent of the vaccine from the vial with a syringe, and place it in the freeze dried vial. Gently mix the two portions together and withdraw back into the syringe. You are now ready to administer the vaccine | |
Administration | |
| Most vaccines are given one of two ways--intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneously (SQ). An intramuscular injection is administered into the muscle, usually the thigh muscle. The muscle can be grasped with one hand and the needle inserted with the other hand. The vaccine is then injected. A Subcutaneous injection is usually administered between the shoulders or the side of the neck. Simply pick up the skin and insert needle. If no blood appears while pulling the plunger back, inject the vaccine. |
